Yeah what's up everybody it's dirt when I thank you for takes some time out to listen to be podcast of our show brought to you by less Schwab tires doing the right thing since 1952. Moving. This is. Erden spray because you're got fired. You lose your job don't hire him. Just stay away from. It's like Sports Radio continues stand now with their surrogates with Andy after Johnson and Brendan spray is afraid. Just call him pray in question today McRae dirt and spray gun 1080. You know unless it. Okay welcoming him to these second hour here on 1080 defender and Sprague dirty is out today. He's doing with some personal stuff but he'll be back tomorrow I believe. He some hoping he's back tomorrow we text yes nearly came inning had you some stuff. So Matt on the outs Monday until we back on Tuesday. Good vibes to to dirt everything he's doing. We got a lot to get to hear in the second hour. We'll discuss something that's going on a radical shift in the NBA. Let's see what else do we got we've got of course revenue or NFL worked around here in just a second. We got some college football notes to get to including something about Washington and huskies'. And what they're doing as of late on so we'll get to a gear but we'll start whether NFL whip around. Through museum tundra there. Learn years. And actually wanna start. Follow on oval here. It was just announced my Adams chapter. The Steelers have placed the franchise tag on running back lay beyond bell I think that's not a shock to anybody. Given now. They had had some injury issues but he's so productive there's not a number one like him you pay in the big money for a year. And then see where your out next season before. You know he start his age is starting to creep up for I don't think he's ever gonna get a big contracts I think it's not a long term contracts now. But notion after reporting bell has been tag also the one short for the Panthers officially been tagged that's a non exclusive deal so it. Teams he can sign an offer sheet like Norman yeah it's so if the Panthers don't elect the matchup they would give to compensatory number one draft picks. Yeah I'm so he got that one and then other players expect to be tagged by Wednesday's deadline. Kirk cousins not a shocker. Melvin Ingram. Jermaine Johnson some big name players also Chandler Jones Jim Jones today yet the cardinals. They were the first team to use the franchise tag the saucy in the place and on Chandler Jones. So there's a franchise tagging update will continue and start in Chicago go along in Chicago I should say. When the bears are probably gonna lose in your valuable weapon. In Allah Shawn Jeffrey. The bears will not place Al Shawn Jeffrey on the franchise tag free agency starts march 9. And many believe he is going to be gone he's playing seventeen games the last two seasons with injuries and suspension. But with his size at 63 is hands being some of the best in the NFL. Could end up. Being a nice little pickup for a team. Yeah I think so the the questions going to be Powell Florida's Al son Jeffrey wanna push as demands for. The length of contract. Or does he wanna go somewhere. Maybe he'll get you know some big money up front maybe an option year but somewhere he thinks can win because. You know he's put up with a lot of nonsense in Chicago which are. His career yeah no doubt about it on and some people look at that I was reading one from the Tribune. In Chicago basically saying the bears are stupid if they you know losing him. Just because you don't have very many valuable players. Who you who listen I don't have. If wanna pay accountancy. I don't know there's a married man it's it's a nightmare and all Forte went but gathers a lot of teams depending on the price tag that he's looking for. Bit could definitely use his services no question Yasser Al son Jeffrey could be out of the franchise tag by by release amusing can you explain the franchise tag. I guess it's basically a one year deal. And it's placed on value of your play. So let's take her cousin would present position yet your position so they value in your play at your position so they average the top five salaries. At that position yet. And then make an aggregate in you play under that amount so they say. Like for Chandler Jones for instance the estimate is fifteen point three million Kirk cousins around 25 yeah million quarterback because of his play this year quarterback position so. It's just away for teams to not lose a guy. Teams can have for multiple years on a player Kirk cousins indeed his second franchise gagged the second one though you're gearing army the Yankees in a third time exactly we saw that the Seahawks did that wind. The Walter Jones I think so yeah they did a couple times a Bolter in the game Walter the contract before his career was done. About let's move on let's go to New York where the jets got rid of the long time member of their team. How bad you want. That you were beaten man how do you want Hamlet. It's. In the dominate. I'm. There is I Nick Mangold is heard on NFL films and I came in the jets' parting ways he was a jet for eleven years. He said my failing Iowa always be grateful to mr. Johnson in the entire organization for making me a jet I truly one I think the fans for their amazing support for eleven years it meant a lot. To see all the 74 jerseys in the crowd every Sunday and I like it nick mangled. And I wonder. How much he's got left in the tank and can he be an Alex Mack type impact player for another team and for those going whose Alex Mack. Offensive lineman senator for the falcons this past year brought in and was huge. In yeah in boosting. That up front for Matt Ryan and that run game and IBC broke his leg going into the Super Bowl. But I just wonder if he can have an impact for team out there looking. For offensive line hell look no further than north of us. You know especially if the Seahawks wanna continue the thing a finding athletes who wore the defensive lineman or basketball players or whatever. How great would it be to have a guy like mangled who knows every trick in the book of skill and technique that he can impart as well was. You know the thought process of the game. What to watch for from defense is. I don't know what he's looking for I don't know what shape his legs and his knees there and fight. Boy if I as the Seahawks I would see how interest in need be move across country because he could certainly help even if Gillingham for a year. But all the use that they have on that offensive line. Have been a mentor like that. I agree would that be exactly. Let's go to Miami where former Baltimore Ravens Matt Il Loma got a little bit of trouble. Detectives thought even riding his Range Rover at high speeds on Miami pine tree dry swerving in and out of lanes almost colliding with other cars. Elam allegedly ignored their sirens and tried to feet away before coming to a stop. Officers noticed an intense smell of burning marijuana and a cloud of smoke coming from the truck. They discovered a good you look back on the driver's side containing even identification. It was packed with 126. Grams of marijuana and three grams of Arctic cold down. More than 900 dollars in cash or Rolex and a gold change. There is WGC news in Baltimore on their report and Gucci bag. Alike that report know that Ilan. Safety for the ravens or should say former safety EV 2013 first round pick who. Charges one count Canada's possession. And a ton of other charges as well being held on 151500. Dollar bond. The ravens are to come out and said they're not interest in Mattie when they were gonna require. Sign him long term anyway. He's been nothing but a bust this can't help his chances of ever landing in the NFL again he lost despite Tony fourteen. Was a rotational player at best. So why he was cod are you are final stop let's go to Kansas City where there seems to be a fork in the road for Eric Varian the chiefs right. Now their plan is if they don't get one of the two players signed. Then they're gonna franchise tag Eric Berry again which he played under the tag blasters. Subsequently doubt he would not do that again this year the players or teams are generally not intimidated by the rhetoric of players who. Believe they ultimately we'll have walking in play for a thirteen million dollar franchise tag. There is edit the order of ESPN. Talking about the chief situation done Torre pose the other cheek he's talking about ot Eric Berry told espn.com. In this process he's just trying to stay patient. And he's not really getting his hopes up this is the difficult thing Eric Berry was a really good player for the chiefs last year and has been pretty good. But here's a pivotal thing we have discussed this there's only a handful of players in the entire league. And maybe less maybe just to double fingers of players in the entire league outside the quarterback position. That are truly worth the long term contracts are not to say they're very is not a good player. But to give him a long term contract with a good portion of guaranteed money if the chiefs end up not doing it. Doesn't really surprise me you can say all the good this team play well maybe. Or maybe you won't hear from him again it just is such a crapshoot in the NFL. With all of these positions these guys can look great one year in the next year they can fall right off a cliff. And so I think that's kind of where the chiefs are stuck right now with Eric Berry they know how valuable he's bend them how good he's been. Well he guarantee. I think. Play making a difference making defensive tackles are a rare commodity in the NFL. I think. You can go and find you know. Great secondary guys are our wonderful specially the safety position not only you know we see that what came chancellor meant to the Seattle secondary. Not just from a physical play making standpoint but their ability to. React. And communicate and maneuver that secondary. On the field you know two to combat teams so. It's not that there is a value to him but long term once I think you can find. Some more of those guys in the draft then you can do you know making defensive tackles. One we've seen it some of the teams that are really successful the NFL. They do they figure that out they don't lock themselves up with every good player that they end up getting. So there's our NFL with brown we do it every Monday at 1 o'clock prodding and keep going with some NFL stuff this week 'cause it's such a revolving door with franchise tags. And what teams are gonna do with and then got it out and buying gets spelled out in the week yeah we got the meat market at the end of the week which will discuss a little later on. As well later in the week they coming up next speaking in the come mine in the NFL draft. Inconsistencies. Could really cost an NFL team. Over one player and insight on how much Jeanne nightmare drafting a player might be for an NFL GM that's next on a fan. I wanna play a little game with listeners out there. All right so close your eyes Felicia driving no closure rescue my open just use your imagination with us. And just imagine that your NFL team without a quarterback right now you're running an organization you're the general manager. Of the browns of the 49ers. Of the bears. And Ellis so the jag wires and a four of the five picks to the titans get the pick from the rams. In that trade that they made so four of the top five draft picks. Need quarterbacks the jets probably and that commerce station as well so maybe you wanna do you five or six let's say you're running one of those organizations. You're after a quarterback. You're not in the Romo. Rivers Cutler dropped below sweepstakes. None of those veteran guys wanna come over to your team. And rebuild with you and turn it around within a year and hope that maybe your playoff team in tears data that no interest right. What do you do you because this is the part of the NFL draft in con mine with Tom on this week in the draft coming up a little later on. This is the part that to me is no valuation. Nightmare. For GM's. And I'll give you an example what I'm talking about so. I saw this over the weekend as we get closer and closer to become mind everybody's gonna break down how. Shawn Watson ran his forty time or whatever he's gonna have you wherever drilled a quarterbacks and I'm doing. Mike may shock of the NFL network who's pretty astute in evaluating talent. His top five quarterbacks. Are Da'Sean Kaiser number one. He's got to Shawn Watson to mixture biz ski three Patrick my homes from tack at fourth and in Davis web from cal fifth. That's his top five all right you respect my Mac right. It should be noted OK I don't know if this is and you're you were giving too and I'm jumping again I don't stealing your thunder okay. Mike may knock as the analyst for NBC on Notre Dame broadcast I am well aware of that but okay you still say he's got good football acumen yes OK yes. So that's Mike's let's go to Todd Ritchie at ESPN. His number one is mixture risky. Shawn Watson is to Kaiser is his third. Brad Qaeda from Miami is fourth and Nathan Peter ring from Pittsburgh is five. And if you just take the mock draft the last mock draft that no Khyber released. Just in the first round milk hyper has to quarterbacks in the first round the first is mixed Robiskie. And the second is the Shawn Watson. Two and ten overall. There's no other quarterbacks from oak hyper in the first round may arc has to Sean Kaiser wine and tight end and. Make Shea as true biz ski number one. What the hell do you do if you're an NFL this is where I think sometimes. You'll we look at new England's of the world we looked at Denver's in the world. And we go just do what they're doing. It's such an easy I just doing it detect concept works. Global what do you do if you're running one of these organizations. You absolutely need a quarterback to sell your fan base to sell a future to sell some hope. Who do you trust taken this year is draft you trust and watch him. Watson is not that big wait till you see him on NFL field you'll see him he's not that big. Too risky. The guy played one year. One of the toughest teams he played defensively with Stanford in Stamford Molly walked and got to almost every other down it felt like. Are you gonna go DeShawn tie user I wouldn't. Based on what I saw but now I could be way off so. I think it's important is we played this imaginary game I'm just having fun like we all love to play GM sometimes right we year old I'm Michelle. It's it's fun to do this because you really look at it if you're the browns the niners the payers the jags the jets the bills at ten. What the hell would you do would you take a gamble on one of these guys and hope it pays off is that that could be your job. Or do you sit it out and try to fighting guy and late rounds. Boy this year. I mean that's what that's what Curtis a Telecom line so it's I mean you. Think about the whole personnel department in an NFL with the GM in the scouting guys and then your coach's way and you know there's there's what maybe 1520 different guys at this point that are all looking at film. And stats and analysis some breaking stuff down and weighing in with an opinion. So. What ya I hope it feared GM is that there is some sort of consensus at some point. In that room of a guy do you think. Can handle the quarterback job for you your team your system now whether or not it is immediately or two or three years down the road. Is determines where you think you wanna go in the draft and select a guy but. If there's not a consensus in the room. That's where he got to look at the free agent market or making it traded. And that's that's the tough thing is with quarterbacks I mean if you're quarterback on the free agency market. Mean point blank basically people are telling you suck now I think if Tony Romo where to hit free agency be released. Adding that's almost an exception to that example I think most quarterbacks that are available on market a Josh McCown. A Ryan Fitzpatrick. Those guys are available for a reason most of these quarter wrap the teams really. The rim really covet and wanna sign alarmed deals or have them leave their futures. Are already locked up and they're not is going to be flat out released in the open bidding to anybody. It's I think that's the tough things wag is. You say draft a guy right for a couple years let's let's say the bills. Let's say the bills pick up how Tyrod Taylor's come and another year his deal which hitting puts him and almost thirty million for him. And they still draft Shawn Watson will Tyrod Taylor does what he did last year he's just she straight out showing you did. He's Alex Smith and buffalo he has limitations he can't leads you unless everything else around your roster is good and that's not a acting to have it out Smith is a good career in Kansas City and good career at the end of salmon Cisco. And I saw a run for a year and a half with 49ers and know what he's doing the chiefs. But then almost limits you to of competing long term so take it Tyrod Taylor doesn't work out. OK great you had him three year Watson sat well let's say wanting comes in and shows that he has. No real NFL ability is first year you mere two boom by year two if he doesn't play well your hand. And NASA developing is when you when you saddle up for these quarterbacks in the first round. It can be Christian Ponder in the twenties. It can be a guy in the top ten when you saddle up quarterback in the first round. You're stuck with that guy in his future determines your future. I wonder if if GM sin and departments now are starting to come to the realization. There. Are not. Aaron Rodgers. Or. Tom bradys in or Andrew looks in the draft every single year. And I think if you build it people wanna put maybe Russell Wilson or to act cross cut in that category now. I don't think you dude that I think you go and look at their situations where. We found a quarterback. Who had NFL competent skills. But more in his head he. He understood how to run the offense efficiently. And utilized we'd put talent around him we we have tried you have skill. At all our positions on both sides of the ball. World we are not looking and putting so much on our quarterback the way the chargers have done with Philip Rivers. It in other teams have try to do. With guys when Flacco. Led the the ravens to their their Super Bowl run he had. Depth and talent on both sides of the ball at all positions. And the minute that talent you know on the defense may aged and started retiring offense they started. Having issues it losing running backs to injury the receivers they couldn't find young guys to come in and fill in behind the receivers that they are out of time. And then it was too much on Flacco. And they've they were only able to you know they did in the wild card that's sort of yeah so out there and there's. Only. Even count them on your hand. Of quarterbacks that can lift an entire team up no doubt and a I would guys I think yeah what fans think it is in the NFL teams have to realize. Let me find somebody who can actually keep the things that we need index acute and worry more about putting every getting a good offensive line put together. Having a solid running game. Of making sure we've got a defense you know that that can get the ball back. When we need to stop you know can force some Ponce hold teams to field goal so were not constantly needing to score a touchdown every time we haven't. But I also think it can it can be a catch 22 in a whale would stay Cleveland for example an immoral or OPEC. Cleveland by some accounts is gonna take miles Garrett at the gym and from NN you're right they probably should. But how do east can you sell that to a fan base and get them excited for your season we need to relive the quarterback. Well I'm not say that they're gonna determine everything out of fans emotion on that it's something though that I think teams have to take into account that can be frustrating. To me when you look at this class a quarter Rex may be there's one of these guys that you Robiskie Watson's Kaiser's whoever. Many one of them will be a franchise guy in prove naysayers wrong. I just am with you in terms of who's jumping out who is that quarterback that. Roethlisberger. The Manning or rivers. Unlock like. I don't feel like there's one in and I could be off on this general of high way to NFL talent but based on what I've seen in college football. It doesn't feel like there could be one. And that's the tough part is when you're to that point and I wonder how many of these teams are we are so one sure. You just better off just take a position that you need and take the best player best player don't force yourself to go get a quarter. I'm not Stutz and model that New England issues over the years sag election the dealers have used it well over the years. Finally when the cowboys started doing that. A low rumble hold lockyer team got a lot better when you drafted first round grade guys. Early in the first round those guys should be ten year starters barring injury making pro bowls and making your team a lot better than you did that. Now they're a lot better and are poised to finally do some damage in the playoffs. Yes so I read them over the weekend and I just thought to myself what a nightmare to deal with guys that they're paid to study these players watch them work out watch them in games. And there's like not a consensus is just got to be a nightmare for an NFL. GM he baker mayfield was arrested over the weekend. Mike Gundy took a shot at Ole miss and Washington doing something very frightening in college football hodgepodge is next. There's some races I think Cleveland fans realize they need a lot of help when one guy is not the answer I hope so. I'm sports fans of and I think I think we're all little guilty of it. You know some really as they are a 100% real salt time miles sometimes no more impatient we want winning now. Some is and who's this year's Derek Karr. I don't really looked into the class. Enough to sailing Derek car status that's tough a lot of people think Davis web how to cow might be big. He I mean you look good in spots. Now. Patrick my home is getting a lot of love to from a lot of national analysts outside of the top three you two guys. And somebody says trade back need extra picks then draft quarterback he doesn't work out. Might not be a big loss and other picker to work out shrill and I've Cleveland by all accounts gonna take miles Gary but some still wondering will they gamble. Intake on eight a quarterback right let's get some college football Newt's. News and notes for nukes. If he's called nudes from now on to some avenue over the the weekend in college football. And wanna start in Oklahoma. With a quarterback and Heisman favorite baker may field. He was arrested in Arkansas over the weekend for public intoxication. Resisting. Arrest. Lean and disorderly conduct. Reports say mayfield was seen yelling with food all over his shirt slurring his words and when an officer told him to come over to talk. You begin to fleet. He sprinted. But then was caught by an officer from behind I don't know what baker mayfield forty time is and how much it's. Changed when he's drunk. Guy give a lot of credit to that officer for chase him down to me not in full soon. Come holes are gonna they have. Catching baker may feel. They know this is not a good luck. For the quarterback the university by the way is not released an official statement quite yet these silly they say they're still gathering all the facts all the information. He basically got trashed there was a fight potentially brewing he was around it if not involved. Option one it talks you wanna know park right isn't school back concession. And I believe so yes with the hells he doing an Arkansas. I understand it's the weekend but I was gonna ask you really stupid question Dominique who look real quick. I mean I know in all the states are not far away but still that's us and ask who's like how close are Norman Norman. It's right there it's actually not too far. Is there right next to each other side that you Norman's probably a three or four hour drive from where he was. You what is he doing in Arkansas. And look for Heisman favorite yeah that's yeah. Especially after you've just dealt with a although it's still dealing with all the to mix and stuff exactly he had the last thing you want is publicity like that with when he big name players. Let's go to the other Oklahoma school Oklahoma State head coach Mike Gundy. He has some thoughts on all this being hit with self imposed penalties which includes the one year bowl ban. Any spoke to told so world columnist bill haste didn't. About the NCAA issues at Ole miss and the football program is facing 21 violations. Unsuitable wind self imposed. He looked back to the cowboys 2016 Sugar Bowl loss to the rebels. And wondered if his team competed on a level playing field he said Ole miss has been accused of committing acts of academic fraud. Raging for cash payments to be made to recruit lying to the NCAA. The first thing I thought about was. The Oklahoma State NCAA situation. And the second thing was the Sugar Bowl and my players. And what they went through we'll never know what we could've done in the Sugar Bowl if it was a level playing field. That is the truth. I'm not sure we would've won the Sugar Bowl but we'll never know he did add we didn't all play by the same rules as if if everybody is playing by the rules and you get. Your butt kicked that's OK I can live when that. But when it's an uneven playing field with grief that is not fair. Every time I think Gundy is cool and he's due in the mullet he gets in the single it promote no. Cowboy wrestling and all have fun stuff we got a drop on Friday from him I don't see your board anymore though on a world half ago. Turn it won't will try and find that it it pretty funny book. Outside of stands third in northwestern. I don't know if any college football coach at a major division one program should be throwing stones from glass houses. Yet the delicate balance is it not when you're in a major power five school when you're like Colin and of the program out next thing you know a year later two years later down the road. What it's like you're involved in summing yeah I will say retroactively. I heard column time on this of the tail end of his show. And we discuss this when they lost to central Michigan. Yes I am absolutely okay we've. Going back in changing outcomes of games in central Michigan is gifted a free down any shouldn't have been. Yeah I think he changed the outcome at the end of a game if there is a clear. Miss interpretation. Of the rule that should have ended the game. I don't have issues with that there is some precedent. In the NBA every once in awhile. There is a bookkeeping error the scores table regarding fouls. And a player either was found out that shouldn't have been or did foul out that was allowed to stay on they won't go back and play the remaining ads. It's every once in awhile. But when it's clear and everybody knows it and the game should have ended prior to something being done that change the outcome you I don't understand what the problems. Yeah I don't I don't think it's a big deal either it's pretty clear already knows it and I'll say this even though he's throwing kind of he's thrown stones here. He's not wrong. No clearly were cheating and we we said this jokingly at the station all misses four years back when they got the number one recruiting class with what was the kid's name is a cardinal now. The defense of Lyman. Robert. My heart and remember. Sorry human target amount. I know together type text listeners would put up a lot of the safe assignments. When he got him an edit more class I've we've what did you Ole miss really. Yes I'm not our Robert can be cheek yes ma'am yes when they got him he's cinema player in the country and in the middle class. Really easily really Ole miss you freeze get out of here. Comes to light the act clearly they're doing something wrong so even though gun he's probably delicate balance here. Clearly he's wrong. Changes they cheated they played with players have probably weren't eligible. Debit that oil and I'm like. They had at the same players they have all year so go go. That's more gray area and then. The refs screwing something up at the end of the game minute should've ended. And again I don't think. People want you know coaches just invite somebody to go through their program with a microscope and find tooth comb and you have. You know like I said outside of maybe northwestern and Stanford I don't know that I would invite anybody to do that I was a head coach. Yeah that's the difficult part the last thing I wanna get to you in our college football hodgepodge. Is something from the pac twelve and I saw this over the weekend. Washington is capitalizing on its successful toy sixteen conference championship. And and under armour camp on Sunday in California. Some of the bigger named California recruits. Were all talking. About Washington Washington is really catching the eye of the big name players in California even more so. Now that they went out they won and they got a conference title. And by all reports. Washington was one of the bigger conversations and talking points. For the entire camp. And you know people can group who in laughed and laughed this stuff off this terror this is got a terrify you cannot husky fan the last thing you wanna see. Is Washington not only has arguably the best coach in the conference in Chris Peterson. But they are legitimately catching the eyes of not only California recruits recruits around the country when recruit was quoted in saying. Winning absolutely matters we notice who's winning ball games. And a lot of what we decide is based on that there are Washington is doing a great job in the bin building that up for three years now. Capping it off. With a conference championship flight day yeah I think. There was some curiosity. To see if Peterson what he did a Boise State can actually translate to the pac twelve where you have to play a real conference schedule. Every year done. People aren't yet. Seattle is a really cool and it's a big it's one of the bigger cities in the country so even if you're an opening. From LA or San Francisco or Phoenix or somewhere like that. There's enough going on in Seattle that you don't feel like you're out in the middle of nowhere. Won the cool part two is where their rat we caught Seattle. I mean they're probably realistically if you drive fifteen. Minutes away from downtown Seattle saluted their but they're also not they're on their sales city up there in my leg yeah it's a beautiful. Campus yes and you've got a huge crazy not so fan base that once you start winning again and they felt like things are going in the right direction 75000. Great stadium that the remodeled is unbelievable. You're gonna be on national TV as much is USC a wait till now that I winning they're gonna get back on TV even more than they were. When they were doing so well when saarc though that thing up and I said this when they hired him. And and husky stadium in Seattle is a place where. SEC teams Big Ten teams well actually yeah we use in Edmond home in Miami with that they're Nebraska win there yeah I believe LSU went fairly busy got 75000. Seats you can give them some men and yeah it's it's. A place where other big time programs are willing to do a home and home boy and we. I said this win he got hired back from Boise. You know I know there's people out there for whatever reason like you wanna watch a coach and maybe it's because you've seen other coaches do this and fail. I thought that was such a huge tires it's a money hire and now it's come to play out three years. And he wins a pac twelve title like any notion of lake pretty dude on on an everyday basis you know week. Who asked that question but realistically yeah of course he can't. It's damn good football coach and now they're getting the eyes of the recruits and that's the important part capitalizing. On your conference championship. There's our college football hodgepodge going around he world of college football hey there's a radical shift in the NBA. That really came to add on Saturday night. And it might only be growing to a level that some all absolutely. Hate I'll explain that next on 1080 the fan pressure is on. Just was different from. In the past that's just executed crunch time in history to impeach. When you win this event is coming all the news that's the lowest you know it's. Current stutter move a look at the hottest topics in sports Brian do you mind crunch could. Is 995 per month so why would you ever pay more for a gym membership. That is correct it is crunch time Rajiv by crunch fitness. Gresham division. Beaverton by Washington square and their new location opening up. In mid march I was told. Over there and Lola. Yeah indeed let's go on go on their tonight I can't wait for you from good to coast amending them and use the what's the the saint patty's day run. Was it called ms. shamrock run shamrock run and then now hopefully the Portland marathon in October so look crunch fitness 999 a month replaced trait. There ago that Caylee for the low one to open up its right approach from my house you gonna run a marathon. After. Amelie biking from Seattle Portland. To really busy year with stuff and goals son apparently so we got to meet these goals right. Two days c'mon much join with me let's go. Pedro America when we swagger aren't. My Roland is a long gone has sent hiring in the old ram run between the states a few years back when I was says space. Aren't I'm I'm an old man stuff bowling and golf now. A couple thoughts real quick on the Washington Huskies. As they under armour camp on Sunday a lot of big time recruits in California all allow where they would let a lot of what they were talking about making that now. Was the Washington Huskies and how impressive they've been with Chris Peters say and in. How Huskies winning has been everything for them somebody text in for the final three organ didn't capitalize on the national championship run and it was embarrassing. Another one. I'd. Another one once they started winning the band wagon guys jumped on the let's see another one from the 360 in Washington was dominating. With Don James the way that they marketed themselves recruits was the cool big city on the West Coast think that you out of Southern California. And I yeah I think Chris Peterson's probably already been hitting that but now they're winning. I have no doubt about. He's gonna continue needed again and it I think it's gonna pay off I think it's going to be a real struggle. Com for early or gain the laws doozy organ State's laws he was there last year they were close. Some think organs getting it right back there this year if not the hereafter and I know be your fan out there is optimistic about Gary Anderson. And we know Stanford is always looming with David shot as it it's going to be tough it I think it really is going to be tough Chris Peterson Washington. They can continue to have to win and capitalize in recruiting it's crunch time today in the NBA. Because there's a radical shift that's been developing for about four seasons now. And we kinda came to lie eight on Saturday night I don't know he saw this weicker this this blew my mind I watched this game. I was I was busy Saturday night okay. I couldn't believe this did anybody else watch the timberwolves rockets game a lot of you'll probably don't know why when I watched it three was she's an MBA with two teams or care about. Fair enough. They combined. Shot 843. Pointers in a single game. 58 came from Houston. 84. Total three pointers we talked about the evolution of the game especially in this whole Golden State air with staff and clay. And how it's all about the three Indy three ball as money if you taken a midrange take two steps back and shoot a three to same percentage. I think it's gonna come to come to head even more than it has. I looked up some stats on this over the weekend because I was just kind of curious about the evolution of basketball. And if we just track is going back four seasons just four seasons. By the way the average three pointer of the minimum in a season was the second year that the three point line was invented. The least number of threes average per game my team there were three teams and averaged one per game. Think about or rap right now Houston is at forty per game so in the eighties it was one. Torre seventeen Houston we're going to forty I tracked back four seasons. No team averaged 33 point field goal attempts per game. Four years ago fast forward now to modern day four years later six teams average at least thirty. Eight teams average at least 28. Or more. And Houston by the way like I mentioned is averaging forty. And I've heard and I've seen like I've heard I've seen it written in I've heard him podcast is following basketball. Some people seriously suggest. That the rockets have they end up playing Golden State. Could shoot about seventy to 75 threes and game. Just based on how the averages break out and how it might benefit them long term a series it's cold state. We'll see I I think the difference in any particular game is do the shots come out of the offense. Are there is the ball going from side to side is it working its way in as a coming back out our guy or is it just. One on one you know one pass quick shot sort of thing. And I think there's no difference between whether there twos or threes are teams running good offense and out of the offense. They are getting threes from their best shooters on the team like I can live without I understand the analytics that there is more reward. And then the other thing we need to look at T was the overall. Three point field goal shooting percentage. For teams in and in in the legal overall. And if it continues to get better if teams are becoming more accurate have more. Shooters to continue to shoot better than then yeah that's where we're gonna go and and the NBA's gotta look at. Okay. Do we the do we do it or do we do away with it do we like this products. And do we do away with the three point shot completely. It was originally brought in to help move players all way. From the paint to create more space for driving in cutting. To allow post players more room to operate without double teams constantly that's that's what the rule came into play. And as it has its president over. You know state its purpose for the India. So I looked up the percentage and lead the number one field goal percentage from three point land is seen Antonio at 40% this is per game mean. On no other team is at forty Santonio is at forty Cleveland's at 39 Golden State at 38. Which is remarkable considering how many they average and they shoot. The clippers are at 37 Washington is at 37. Milwaukee is tie with a bunch of teams at 37 even. Oh wait out Houston who averages the most in league forty per game they shoot 36%. From three point land as a team. They're just playing the map there just plain odds and I'm. Long as you're over 33 and a 3% exactly. And then you are more effective shooting threes than shooting 50% from two partly here's the other thing too. Do you do you like this kind of playing. The no personally he thinks fans generally the ratings haven't been bad by hitting a lot has to do with. The play your play years involved Golden State with a great team LeBron in the finals for like six straight years. Do you think collectively those sports in the like watching this product of basketball. What goes back to what I said is it is a Golden State style where you're giving ball movement player movement you're setting screens ball goes side to side inside out and all of a sudden clay or staff. Is open for three or TV or is Harden just coming down with the ball dribbling it for fourteen seconds and then jacking up a story. And not. Say that Harden doesn't move the ball on offense on just you know. The two extremes of it yeah. I think good offense ball player movements. And in your good shooters. Are are taken shots then yeah I think that'll it that's exciting because a Big Three and a clutch time. It is a big part of the game but. Just a come down like the all star game Elster game was trust I could watch it well the all star game is they don't literally try at all they just want to go back and forth and when a guy issues but when you get into those situations there are times in games where that teams just sort of run up and down and are jacking up three's. I think it it more has to do with. How you how your team operates. You know if your offense go back to go back to Loyola marymount. Back in the Hank Gathers Bo Kimble days. That was what they're off that's what Paul Weston's offense was designed for with Kimball. MP body and I forget the other guys there. But they would all run to certain spots Kimball would have and if he got in the paint if they'd hit gathers cutting for a dog. If not the ball would go to a corner you whip around for a wide open guy who can hit the race not as exciting now was 929192. So if you can actually tutored in there is a method to the madness absolutely I think it's very exciting. If you're just jacking up threes because. You think it's a bigger reward than twos and you're not really run an offense and as boring as hell. Do you like watching the NBA now with all these three point attempts Houston and Minnesota shot a combined 84 in their game on Saturday. A lot more of that came from Houston who shot 583. Point attempts. Do you like the way the NBA is going 55305. In the three ball there's also a kid as an example how this might be affecting high school ball. I'll tell you about that story and then also get to leave Lonnie. And they're not better without the markets cousins we got a lot to get to in the final hour let us know the NBA do you like watching it the way it is now. Senator around the three point line 55 through five we're back with more of Portland sports leader 1080 the fan.
