And you can find the time and spin you can actually yeah right John revise against you. Home what they'll all journalists and Al clubs. Thank you ask yeah. This is prime time. I didn't. Your source for the best and local regional and national sports. Here are rising Bronfman Jason's a candidate quit trying to I'm Jane ADP. And they what do you do what's up. And. Johnny attorney Mike Goodman. Oh boy. Percent broadcasting yeah yeah we'll be twelve years Ricky. You're Ricky I. I I'm ready this sport's. Great sports fans are so tight right now. Miner by sports and my whether pants. Jim from getting in today I try to turn around and the only reason I'm here right now is I have no way home. When I mean close I was coming in on two O five and I did not have a problem. I went about forty miles an hour the whole time no issues didn't slide didn't know slipped a known nothing but going across the to a five bridge. The other direction going over into Washington and the to a five bridges apart Q. It was wall to wall there's about three to four wrecks on the bridge so that way I was is like holy hell they're gonna take forever to clear that thing no one's going anywhere. It's that I came in 84. And I got right about to go Lloyd center in the and that shut doubt that like as far as you could see going forward I five red lights and then I turned on Wade's. The Trevor Kapanen said get off and Lloyd centering go the back way. We're right there is enough get that little reader board dared to tell you the times and so from right there's a basically Lloyd senator. Mota center if you will. Tied to get across the bridge 79 minutes lone year and I. Low but at that point out right and our in nineteen minutes to get what BB six miles. Is and that's at the time that's would no new accidents or no new weather conditions. So when I got off and Lloyd center I had every intention of video I've fighting going home and saying screw this. Like I'm not deal with this but then I realized I've got no way to get home there's only two bridges and it looks like both ways are screwed so I figure I might as well as I back wade. Down through like Morrison and and got near the back way. But it was not pretty out on the the major highways. Well as you can see from the KGW coverage yeah winter storm brings snow to the northwest this is yet and when it's knowing says regular winter storm brings snow to the northwest. Rita. Headline you know what this is though one in the midwest boy yeah this is what it's like like you know because it's different here. Is to be free Sony now yeah. But they freak out here because it's different here because of the ice yeah right like in the icy no good in every get so called religious snows and that's it yeah right it's it's always like right around freezing and if he goes north and rains and goes back south you know you're in real trouble like that's when that's in the city shuts them yet. Gives you can't do anything that I have read this today now is like just a normal. You know sort of midwest snow yeah to me this reminds me of home Louis blues may have slipped out there we just gotta be careful. I'm just an MB I saw so many wrecks coming in our military I saw what what did you sense but I have a feeling the ice might hit later when we're trying to go home. Let's get it it's going to be up until like 35 or so and it's gonna drop back down tonight and that's the problem yeah and then every that's where is that your best but I saw probably 78 Rex. Comedienne now what is that is that do you think it's people being careless I think it's a people being clearly I think panic team alone and stop jamming on your brakes at first and foremost. And just like as I was going to end I never went above forty miles an hour and I never got within probably 25 feet the car in front me. And I had two or three different people. Like swerve around me. To duck get a zip that 25 feet but you're going to anyway Kirk but there's a line of cars in front of me. But they were so bothered at my forty mile an hour. I guess they gap that I had that they felt the need to to. Go into the opposite lane to go around me. She'd get an extra twenty feet to the car in front of them. That's the jackass that's causing the Rex ever won just wedge forty slowdown he gave the current front abuse based. On roads like this this Sunni fight it was not bad I did not slip wants a sort of I mean ever for a drive and a CB but it's only come. Again snow tires or anything it was not bad at their but there were wrecks everywhere. Include dean I saw a lovely U haul truck when it the wrong direction on 84. And I'm guessing bats is not where you wanna be. Yeah he did a complete spin them oh I guess that would not be a complete spend at B a 180 and it ended up in the media and at 84 and right analyzed the the Lloyds and today it's. Nine have much trouble either but it is pretty slick in some spots yeah he's slowed down. Mr. careful out there folks if the person in front of you lots of space don't mash your brakes a thing of California plates ram them effective and welcome Dorgan bitches. Yes so we're hair and RJ said he lost the bet. Because we're both here well it was close quite frankly I was not expecting you to look there there was this 80% of this is a huge upset that you're sitting enemy there. Well you can think the 205 in the I five bridge for that a huge upset as I was ready to punt midway through the drive here. Yeah RJ said he lost the bet that we're both here but we are at Morgan and Morgan sports where you're a sports actually have some pretty good stuff. He comedic bits to lead not only hang over days from the radio Thon yeah which. We have a final total don't count your chickens yet by the way here's. It's a good chance that this could be a hangover show. And hunt chickens. Well I mean. Oh yes doesn't he terrible waste and as saying we're here and we're gonna try the BNF suffer like effort. I have a total. Were you excited. To begin der moral something in celebration anything. Well assume Mike's doing and there clearly a someone's on number yeah really come on Mike. Grand total. Who do you Grissom. Tools configured to. A Jew. 183300. Yeah. EU's. I see. That is really really cool in 180 pain in unbelievable all those confident that Dennis yeah. 183380. Dollar grand total final final total that's with Carl's junior. They came in at 57742. Awesome. And then there are few overnight online gifts. From some late bloomers that's nice and we at all let out and it's 18080383. So. As we said last night thank you for everyone you to stated our radio Thon that is what does that so let's assume it's. We searching took hold me get them and I Foley held we're gonna go to Kansas master will agree with what are you try you know these iphones have calculators what are you trying to add up over there. The 383144. Days ago we just too small forward into this night that we just. A lounge. In our listeners allowed 1273. And a half. People. Individuals individuals athletes who participate in specialties organ freer it's really been like that rule 28 hours 12175. People. Were affected. So greatly by your edge. Burris donations yeah so it's really really humbly and thank you for every once for sticking with us in and I know that when there wasn't a lot of sports that we did yesterday even though there was some some pretty big news. So it's it's it's it's probably we have the best listeners in Portland no one does that kind of like we do this is truly grassroots when it comes the in a fundraising and we do it a hundred bucks at a time fifty bucks at a time and he says the output to support never ceases to amaze me. Now this guy says I'm flat Lander and it's different when their hills that is true. People act like there are no hills. In the midwest. Jesus get out more there are he'll look I know it's chillier here. But good god there are hills where it's flat if that makes sense yes. Does this is quieter flat but there are hills. Not in support contrary to arguably it's not just a flat grid to flat piece of Earth's crust and John I always laugh because I have lived in several locations where it's quite smelly. I've lived in Denver amid the collapse later Denver has a lot of hills yes they do lived in Denver judge Deborah Fuller yes. Lived in Colorado I've lived in Alaska lived in Utah all three of those things very very snowy it bad winter conditions. I do love the people they come from places like dad though and act like weather is not a factor there. Well up Florida please think paradise no problem. I am from a lab BS. There's no great secret to driving in the snow there's no great secret to driving in the eyes welled in his Houston they're used to it and beat good the other one is those cities have a ton of resource is that they dedicate to it because they have to you. But if you're from Chicago they've got like eight million snowplows if we add those resource is it be a lot better year to. Babbitt gripping and always drives me crazy fight. One goes two to four inches that's not a lot but for here it is Alaska you know there's nothing to know is it we don't have it like the site streets here are gonna get plowed they're not gonna get sanded. So that's screws you over because we just sort of the resource is to commit to it. No one here has no tires if you live in Salt Lake everyone has snow tires same thing in Denver if you live in Alaska well so tires here. If you are sort tires this wouldn't be an issue but then you would put them on once a year every three years if you will it's just. I laugh at people that are from bad weather places that act like weathered never affects them. Well I I would flip the script on you say don't you think the northwest is a little. I mean there were meant to whether we're not that we're not or whether season we're not the toughest in the okay c'mon we Californians are worse now because they receive anyway they're not really. All believe me they're worse I don't know if you've got I don't know how many people when they get dear dear received Cannes I'm guessing most of the people there are from Kansas and that's the not aloud well going to Lawrence from California but. Yeah there are a lot of Californians are there and a ton of people from Chicago Chicago maybe there when I would Saint Louis they gave me you are you you get a lot of yeah a lot of people when they're a lot of mormons in California lot of mormons in Arizona say you get those and I'm not Katie is a nightmare. Did the first ever start snowing use the around you know October or beginning of November. EU can see it every time blonde. And driving a mustang. With California plates guaranteed that they are gonna plow under someone it's stunning to me how they're just like. So let's go fast search and you just end up watching them just to really Bertie the intersection but it was limited its. It's sure if you've never seen it before people don't know how to drive minute where is if you if you lived in Kansas or whatever you are used to driving in. Inclement weather yes okay so let's all get along OK yes we can all hold hands and ceiling of that that's the reason right now why that's why I'm not going home or watching TGW's life. Well yeah and that's the unwrapped trying to get from 84 I five that's the reason why I chose to it just to stand still that's what I decided to come into work today why has why is no one on that other one should just jump over there you can just hop over that read the other way grant them well. And Kenya you poor people and their days Daylon daddy's screw jump in the median and I did just go right over the medium headed to Salem at a. All right folks well hey it's the day after which is for us. It is so. Thanks for for participating and let's get to sports and here we've got Mike bull why coming on yes I know that I didn't know that I forgot that I just now as they came in you know seventeen minutes from now Mike the lot he's going to be on here. He Mano thing or two about coaching in Oregon I don't know maybe not if he. I think he'll lose their for a couple years listening he did a good job was there for 23 years body did a good job like I did a great job and he's like the guy that's never gonna get any credit donor he gets his honesty gets lost is awesome job Rick rich Brooks will always get the credit for Connor. I know giving the program going and nimble body took it and ran with it and then chipped. Obviously you know you can play for the two national championships or I guess he only played for the one that he still gets credit for their health rich ritual gives zero credit. I got national championship they play for as to how a state that gives grandfathered into the Chip Kelly I think we'll find out but Marianna gets the yeah I did did they they even though health rich recruited him by Brazil Mariano and developed him but. It's it's it's funny that gathers. Our panel before or after cheer up it's just you kinda get lost in the shuffle board bloody does not give the credit he deserves. Is he built that program and he built that into wave a eight top twenty borderline top fifteen program. Ends eat he built the foundation there. And by the way he was one Dennis Dixon injury your way from playing for a national championship. Felt like it thagard and yeah. OK so body's gonna join us at 330 we will I have some Taggart audio coming up next if you missed him when we did play alive here on the band we're gonna play few clips you can hear what Willie Taggart had to say. Embody 330 odd Dave Barr two today 515 he's not a Taggart fan. And then. Now of course he's comfortable matrix yes he's saying that. And then our and it's a challenge for our round picks against the spread and you know look after that. I'm no no well I you have to yet they could be. I think we start replay stuff we get here at six for report with. The Boston Cammie coming up next Mike bloody day coming up next us they are to again. We use again and again to do that here because he is imminently. Oh yeah he Carl's junior yeah I don't think it's Carl's she lets Foner. That is commencing well I think the weather may have wanted to meet him the weather may have derailed. Well anyway and now let's get to go on hair. What do you think of the stagger tire and you'll hear what Willie Taggart had to say today as new head coach of Oregon coming up next. On the sand. Prime time where highs against duke got a 1080. I here's our poll question today at 1080 to standout comrades that would her Brothers during celebrating thirty years of the year. What do you think of Oregon hiring Willie Taggart and it is Taggart. Within me through the nominee now to THE GA RT Meredith and and again. And of us are right about that love it hate it or. Men. I feel like a lot of people were pissed about it that I feel like after the press covers they allowed those same people were now on board really people are so fickle. And are you can go off of this you know social media and you can read you know comments underneath articles that. Feel like when he was hired it was beyond underwhelming to a lot of people. And then after today that the guys at the guys secures manic guy he brings an edge he brings a swagger to him. So I think a lot of people body into that role fired up again my the only one that was kind of underwhelmed by his press conference. I died he does I think it that's that's all I felt like a lot of people really were were buying into what he was so while I'm missing me I can't speak for the view I'd. If you give it robbed of their men. I was actually a little longer role he was not I don't know I I think it's well. LeMieux and you're expect TV really over the top Jim Harbaugh asks sort of things let me let me finish school course love it hate it or. Mad 64% say. Men and 32% to eleven at four hated. Yeah I think for me it was. It was a real. He was. He was sold as a guy who kind of like Gary Anderson's likeness and it sounds like PJ fleck is like this is obviously Arnold's like as they have these Montrose that there are so. Sort of there so set on. That. You listen to him talk for ten minutes and you wanna run through wall for our friends like these types of guys and generalize and that the that he's he was sold is that that guy and I didn't really. I thought that he was gonna coming guns ablaze in in like high energy guy and he's just sold as a any contact came a came out I probably was over expecting you know but he kind of came across is a little cliche. It was a lot of cliches here he had a lot of Italian words they want to buckle up it's gonna be fond of put a fence around the stayed yeah in god what does it was conscripted feeling again he was reading off the paper for some of it what he finds funnies probably nervous the doctor as he could tell that but I think guys like that like owned the room guys in just owner room. And I thought that he was gonna do that a little more I mean I say underwhelmed it doesn't even matter what happened the press comes as us and you'll ever remember. So it's not. By any means a big deal I just didn't hear much of a plan either like a lot of it was it was almost like. Let the questions like you reading hearing here. He's like I don't I just know that we got recruiter asses off and I know I gotta hire a good defense coordinator I know you know I mean yeah instead of like laying out a vision for here's what's gonna happen on when asked him shipping here's how many do it. And it's as opposed to Hussein we can win a national title here we don't have to. We don't and what he's and we don't to settle for anything here I've never had these kind of resources before. I will tell if your Brady Hoke I would start to polish and appealed CD because I think you're looking for a new job ya when the university president and the head coach both well when the president comes out and makes his statement about he doesn't interfere in football. Other than to say you should hire a defensive coordinator. That probably means that you are looking for a job you have about that yet. That was my first thought as my first taste of him I wanted to Brady joked to be in the room and some independent what are. I did it take and had now but. A heck I'm pretty sure Brady if he didn't know already in he will not be retained other odds out of this in the Taggart said he's an interview the entire staff. And order would like him to retain some of those got it's because the men ought to buy him out. Embedded suppose it's gonna be up to Willie Taggart he says get a view with all the steps find out if they meet his vision. I would love. To be in the room in that interview goes down brick. Radio it's as seen from office space we have to interview for your own job pick out a day to day basis what exactly you do your coach Hoke. Would love affair. Skills. Would love to be a marriage and hear that. So I I think that you know part of the problem here is this man stepping under a major microscope yes and Oregon football is one of just a few sporting interest here I mean the sports fans here. Mean you've got the trailblazers and you've got the ducks and beavers and that's really an publisher you know you can throw in the timbers but. When you're at South Florida and the a sitting there thinking beyond this guy is coming from conference USA. You know it's a big unknown it's a big step and it's like he he's fifth in the pecking order his own state of South Florida you can pretty much just. Go down there in kind of fly under the radar and that's just in college football not to mention all the pro sport so. Think the scrutiny that he's gonna get here is going to be different. Oh I think we're gonna pick apart his every move and we are you are just like we just talked about his press governments like who cares about press conference who gives a rip exactly but we are but were already taken apart. And I just don't think he's gonna have much room to breathe and do his thing people expect a lot here because. Of the unprecedented success that organic sheep under Chip Kelly. And they're watching far closer than anyone ever did at his last two stops and and I got the feeling today that man that. That's just it's going to be hard on him now that he can't do that this is going to be hard this piece is that to see what. What people are satisfied with. And what they get. Good I I you can win here Dorgan it's it's been proven I no doubt you can be a top 25 program year in year out organ you should. Be a top 25 program year in year out but. Q did thinking you're going to win the conference year in year out that your gonna play for national championships on a regular basis. I I find that to be foolish in the history of this program. Well I mean you let's go modern history you've played for two national championships that happen in a five year window but that's not that that's not the norm. Mean I know you've you've built this into a into a nice program but there are some inherent disadvantages. To to being in organ. Work it is not USC organ is not Alabama and even those schools. Well I guess Alabama under Nick Saban is done in under Bear Bryant is an open outside of those two coaches Alabama doesn't compete for a national title every year. And USC doesn't without without Pete Carroll or John Robinson or some of the greats that have come before there it's. I just feel like or end. I wonder if organ will ever be OK with being a very good. Pro if this but it simply if you expect Chip Kelly level results you're gonna be disappoint who generally Saget yes if you expect my body output eventually. You may get that and this guy is good enough to maybe get to there. That's really what it boils down to you right there it's all about what are your expectations. I get killed by giving him an opportunity by the way to come in put his own spin on it. Bring in his staff get in his type recruits build a culture it may take a year or two it. I don't know if he gets three or four work. But that I'm not expecting a four fight win but it may take him plus a half years just like anything else to kind of go through the attrition of Yahoo! staff and an athletes in kind of building to the way you wanna build us us about say is gonna have some attrition differences normal breathing even talked about is that a yes the server gritty he has to start recruiting his players to get them to buy yen all right let's listen to come close and remembering on my bloody. Here is Willie Taggart it to be perfectly honest with you off I cannot wait. Into this press conferences all the way it's like and get to work. I I thought the press commerce side you said you were underwhelmed I I did struck a chord with me I thought if I was a duck fan and I was listening to that. I was excited for our buddy do well successful program it will place a bust in those three tenets. Make no excuses. Blame no one. Do something. We will continue to live about those believed that we return this football program to the law was that is that it deserved. I tell him next. Mike Bellotti. You know him as the former coach of the ducks who never coach again he is have been them broadcasting Emerson fleeting he would know something about coaching at that school did a hell of a job their for a long time yes and he will join us and give his give us his thoughts on what Willie Taggart is up against when we return here is Michael sports center. Time where thighs against duke on sanity though prayer. And I 33 here on the stand without Robinson day after the reassigned. Final number he mr. for 783000. Dollars men. So thank you to air sauce out there that took pictures of that to all due to our wonderful wonderful listeners. But the ducks introduce Willie tigers their head coach today and here's a man who knows a thing or two about coach gene the Oregon Ducks because used data and it when he was here. Now ESPN Mike Bellotti long time no talk Ari coach. I'm great how what you get well I did pretty good we're still here with all these years later. He yeah what do you yeah right intelligently with OK so what do you know about Willie Taggart. You know I don't know that much although I got a call from Dick told me today who I respect a lot and he told me that he worked out well indeed. Great guy does a tremendous job with players. You only he worked for Jim Harbaugh ideas Tony Dungy seal the cruel that's probably enough for me I know he's done more with less at western Kentucky. And at South Florida he's been willing to change his style of offense to sit the mold of the players he's got. And he's got a great reputation as a recruiter sort all sounds good to me a look at forty get a chance to meet and sit down talk. Talk football and talk direction. So he yet he munition his recruiting skills is a good recruiter just to get recruiter and that translates no matter where they go Horry is you gene. Different is it were is it direct recruiting T Jeanne as opposed to you know being in Florida. Well yes it eat your recruiting you're good crew ready go a little tougher gene that is torque because they're just not a local captive population of pac twelve division one football players within that three or 400 mile radius I mean you got to go there is some of Seattle there's at least some of the Bay Area there's a lot more in LA. But they're not in Horry and certainly not Eugene don't have a chance to come and see. Campus in practice every day and make visits to the campus I just driving no so. You've got to be a little bit better recruiter when it gets to be long district urging it be a better value later to know where to spend your time. Is that the biggest challenge that comes along with taken a job and organist is just that simply recruiting to a place like Eugene. Yeah I I think so I mean that there's not a huge minority population but let's be honest good. You try to recruit minority people and but the facility obviously your overwhelming their tremendous there's good news there are anywhere but you gotta get it there and then you got to figure out how parents and Stanley are gonna get their -- games until it. You don't see their son play elbowed now almost every games on TV so the world much smaller place but. I used to like to be a great recruiter yet to create trust with the people that you're gonna take over in Italy their lives. You look at organ and it starts with with rich Brooks and the transitions into you and you guys build something there. You build it into a top 25 program year in year out there's not many down years in fact in your entire time there was that one year you didn't go to a bowl game I think. I've possibly get traded yeah. So one and then you know of the of the stratosphere I guess the the you know. Is is there a danger a bit this year that he whoever it is will it jagr mark Alpert whoever comes after is gonna be constantly chasing some being met. You know for any program in the country I don't care if your Florida Florida State Alabama may be unrealistic to to think that that is the expectation. Well there's gonna be ups and downs was every program it's just an inch in the programs like you know Alabama let's say your. I mean which you can't see Notre Dame anymore and you can't say it sees so I mean it it's hard. To look at programs say you're just gonna have a top ten or a national. Championship caliber team every year there's just sometimes you miss a recurring sometime gypsum devastating injuries. But. Unfortunately the trajectory of the Oregon program wasn't too right direction again when you're in the national championship two years removed that. It's hard to believe that at Oregon they're gonna fire coach. And you know I know I have to people on that step and work would be have been no Long Island. You don't become dump coaches overnight but unfortunately sometimes you don't make right decisions in recruiting you lose some of the key players. You you may not have to people that come on in the program its show was same slots that were still before. This is a former Oregon coach Mike Gilani would this year on the stand in a CSN. So as a coach. Did it seems like an organ there's been the sort of sense of entitlement takeover not with. All players but with some enough to really affects there's the progress of the program how would you go about if you're Willie Taggart. Sort of eradicating that. Well I'd put him in a different building I'd make him earn their way into would adapt to Delhi complex. I put him in the bowels lots and stadiums like that because. They don't deserve right now and that's the only way you have to understand I don't know about the entitlement like I did do you work a little bit. As we got better and better facilities. I talk to the players about ticket that wasn't about the uniforms order. The equipment out of so it'd win again it's two guys on the field got to win the football game and if there ever cash in heart and the mind what they have to do. Keep that straight so you know I and I think. It's hard when you're there as part of it to do it it's a little easier when you come in fresh from the outside. Need to say hey guys we didn't do very well actually we didn't play as good as we need to do we want to stop as we needed to be. We have to develop we have to earn some things and you know I had a chance to do you Lou we will Virginia gave actually Virginia Oregon game two and I talk to buckled and the ball when he got to Virginia date. Had a losing record losing team and keep everybody current security earned her way into their right to go into the locker room you know things like that and I think. I'm not saying that's necessary but I'm saying. It's one way to sort of make. People earn it and see who really want to do is going to work say. It don't matter what I want to article one was last year I gotta be a lot better this year I want this seemed to be. Just the you know I remember being recruited their right around that time when some of those were just getting built and there was nothing like it on the West Coast I remember being recruited to Washington in UCLA and you know they're just more nice facilities in the pac twelve organ really stood alone. They were kind of ahead of the curve on that so just did you talk about that what. What did you have to go through in and was it significant to you you notice as you guys kind of got more than bells and whistles that more freely around at least West Coast college about the time. What impact that had on your team. Well you know I can give you a quick overview accuses pretty DIR eight took over in 95 after the rose ball we want to get Cotton Bowl back to back used to bowl games all night so what do you need to actually be indoor practice facility. We built that a year later. We lost. Have my staff after the first yearbook coordinators left what you bank went to six and 0167891011. Consecutive years. And we rebuilt stadium week. And at the Musharraf she's got an indoor facility Reid did training room reduced the locker room and built the academics that are eventually. And as we did all those things we kept winning and getting better better than we had a well. And I think people slot and and we'd look at that at some of the kids we recruited. Came in look and attitude of entitlement that takes just by putting on that Jersey was gonna make them a better player they weren't gonna have to do the work necessary in the off season or the weight room work. Or compete on the field. Like they might want to end so we dealt with to that we dealt at an incremental. Measures throughout my entire time thereby. By 2008. When I left in the 2009 class that I signed. I thought we had. Cleared another hurdle because we were about ready to build it didn't do football so. And I UWB and other challenged but I thought we recruited great group of kids and we had a team. In that we started that streak together I think we went seven wins great liberal member in. In 2000 and don't can win in 20057. Arrayed in the next year and then nine and then ten and that ship like that ever maybe ten or eleven I remember that first year. But you know you you go through those a little bit of cycles which you've got to nip in the bud because it takes over in your lock girl. It takes over some of the people you recruit. He can be a poison and I think you know I don't know what that was the issue. With his team or not I really don't. I just think that they were loose shorthanded on defense they've had. Three different coordinators in three years now whatever it wasn't for years and that's skeptical. You know what is your view of the defense I mean is it as simple as a way to settle shorthanded on defense or why were they so bad defensively. Well they did it work they work very good and big ticket actually got outmanned and apparently got out coached and it just loads. Difficult and they had some injuries and I I don't know. You know I I'm not aware enough of the personnel and board so you specifically is they're good or bad in this area but. It was just typical in that certainly good transition. Idol unique talked buckle three order for a three year. What are before to try to they're really matter. Still got to find level guys to comply and and play well. And unfortunately sometimes they're used was an advantage and sometimes they used was a disadvantage and an a problem but. They they weren't very good and unfortunately no one of the worst defense in the nation. And it was a factor because that year before they outscored eight. And this year they were looking younger on defense special and also to line and a quarterback. And they could not scorpio. While most fans view that side of the ball is really the key so if your coach coming in T Jeanne late Willie Taggart how do you build. That side of the ball back up is it as simple as just hiring a great defensive coordinator like Taggart said today. Well yeah it's but it's not just that it's gets recruiting. And it's finding some people and that it may be I don't know in this case changing the culture but. You know it may take a year to I'm just saying that I don't know what you can recruit in one year group to get enough guys to. Create the kind of competition. Every day in practice Jergen need to put a great Egypt on the field but. You know it's I'd certainly start with you stay out. You know I think I heard Willie say talking about recruiting and staffing and to be illegal and and you you're. You're not gonna do one without yet you can't go recruit people who want to know who's gonna coach you coach who's going to be the Decourt who's going to be live record could choose to beat Russia that. So he's got. Its work cut out twelve in terms of meeting with. The current staff at Oregon meeting with seeing who's gonna follow him from South Florida who might take over some of the jobs there and then get those guys on the road now just. Here's force of will his personality is certainly gonna help he's got a reputation as a recruiter. It's still not a national. A national brand name. So he's gonna have to go. You know because street hit the pavement which he well sounds like he wants to working excited about it and I think it I think it's a good hire. The other when I wanted to ask you about is unique. You guys were always pretty innovative and in ahead of the curve you mentioned you know. You build the indoor practice facility and in all different things you guys were ahead of the curve on that when you offensively you guys were even defensively some stuff nick was doing. You guys were ahead of the curve we're starting with scrutiny in and then obviously chipped in and that fast paced offense but. You look around the conference now everyone has sixty million dollar facilities everyone's running tempo everyone's running spread everyone's doing four or five different uniforms. And with the rise of washing USC is just harder than ever now to stand out when it comes to recruiting or just been successful because everyone else is an Odyssey caught up at. Just feel like maybe that the rest of the field is in it's it's even got a little bit as far as the innovation goes. Yeah I would say certainly would Washington and you see seemingly on the comeback trail and Washington and they're because there are playoff and at sea is navy right now the hottest team in the conference and one of the best teams. In the pac twelve minute it is difficult. But you know Oregon I think has some things with its relationship with Nike ad so let some things that. Can't be matched too many places to. The problem at such a beast or is right we work we were innovated we were smarter not to stay had it occurred to change offenses to. Adapted and adjusted and even changed these coaches. And then to create some excitement with uniforms and facilities that we could capitalize on 'cause we. Got a bowl games are only one bogey so we won games are won championships and so those things were really important you can't have one. If you don't back it up on the other red. And now everybody we well new leader in an arms wee bit of the world and archer just depends what would you consider the armed. But you know in football it its facilities. In its recruiting in its staff. And having you know a lot of the staffs and console or perhaps thirty paid coaches on staff I mean we can't get that was it total. And so we changed that. And it's it's change you were you have consultants and they are helping. Everybody you've got cut coaches or full time coaches and our going making a lot BP consultant. It's so it's there's an arms race now that you don't see is much from facilities standpoint but it's a personnel. It's an intelligence war. And a lot of lot of play a lot of programs out there have a lot more people upset and you don't. Yeah how close were where you ever to come back to the sideline. It close a couple times three or four times and then I got offered jobs every year after less beat each up probably for the first five or six years and jobs pac twelve jobless DC jobs. At. Big Ten jobs but I you know I I walked away because I was ready I had to the issues. I had family issues I had some saying that I need to take care about there is really liked football club and I you know people had to do in this coach acted yet every day every single day there's added data you're coached. There's not data goes by the you'll think about what you think about what you would do this situation. Think about how to recruit how to call better play. But it is 8247365. Job and even more than that. In which the social media world now. It's just you know I I make which again I really made it might go to ice cooler chase here division three team and just say. Become honor and welcome in coach with tighter the quarterbacks to what you want. I'll help you a little bit more we'll go from there. Now but that ESPN gigs pretty good gig ranked PGM sub. The easy all right. If you know the good thing about yesterday at a football is I get to talk about football. I don't lose many games I don't yeah I I don't have to make a call the mob after. Their son got injured or this and got kicked out to TB can be screwed up so yeah I hit it a lot better life. It's a lot easier usual you don't win many games that you look up you don't work. You miss the competition he had yet to get that competition sort of a bug out on the golf course Shrek. Good tennis court golf tennis where can I got a ball up today so be nice all right we'll thank you so much for a check him back in always good talking to Mike thank you. I guess I'd seal it and that's of the great Mike Bellotti of course former Oregon football coach becomes a really good inside about very good yes. What lies ahead for doing what it took to build written in some of the unique challenges yes so attacks what did you think anything stand out I had I wrote down two things that stood out to me unable get to those next text 55305. This is ten. The where the ice chicken soup god Kennedy goes. Spierkel text messages regarding. Coach Mike Bellotti. And his thoughts on the haggard hired new York and John my body is. Like the president. He gets better as time goes on in history shows just how good he was an identifying coaching talent and building a program I think there's a lot of truth to that and it's not just the fact that you that he was a good coach he had a very good staff. And he put those guys around him including Chip Kelly you know without my blood there isn't a chip count. Yeah bodies on the founding right up through Dan Mullen I think I think that's what it was and then ended up to some with that they need to go take a blue sky bloody goes out interviews and takes look at him brings them out. Nixon is offensive coordinator and you know they've they were ahead of the curve and I remember haven't discussed what bloody once off the air. About when they first hired Gary Croat and that he realized his his crew and was. And Gary Gordon was was a coach in the NFL many Ambien. An offensive coordinator down on the East Coast the end Debian head coach B or UB was kind of a with the offensive innovator and was running more than shotgun read option. Up tempo stuff. And a lot of economists saw the future that instead we need to change your offense this is not gonna be Joey Harrington anymore. You know we need to kind of evolve and it went from Croat ending Croat and Rondo a couple of others in the name Jim Kelly he was always looking for the next thing he was always looking for way to stay at a stay ahead of the curve and I think when you're in a place like Morgan. I do think that you need to have an edge you're not Alabama you're not Michigan your not gonna recruit top ten talent. And so you are gonna get good talent you're gonna get top 25 tower because the facilities in Nike and it's a very good program. But you need some kind of edge and bloody was always looking for a coaching edge and I think he was never satisfied just staying status quo. Another bout was one of the the brilliant things he did as a coach yet haggard did say that it in his press conference he did say hey we gotta be creative and different and I was with his terminology. When you're USC here you're Alabama your Michigan you can just recruit. Top ten talent and say we're gonna be fundamentally sound we're gonna go out Morgan would pure yes. And that's you know it's me networks when you get that sort of terrible when you recruit in the teens if your crew in the twenties which is where organs gonna recruit. Offense to Willie tiger but you're not gonna recruit the best of the best you're not gonna get five star kids there's just it's just not gonna happen. And so you do have to have a scheme you have to have an edge yet to have something about you. Where you're going to out scheme you're going to be more clever than the next guy is different ways to skin a cat and you have to find out what that is an organ. And I do feel like the bloody in his staff. With costly tried to poke at that they tried different things. No tech says bloody pointed out without directly naming health which one of these major downfall is the lack or inability to articulate his vision. Of the future for the program yes. I think that's true I also the they get a hard time selling it to the powers that be get the big thing to sit out to me was the entitlement thing yeah that did said in an orient and is it seemed here Bly say how he felt it too easy is basically said we dealt with a better any pointed out he didn't point out that you read between the lines that. But this health fresh regime this last year did not do a very good job of dealing with the entitlement you have even said you have to nip that in the bud. They did this group didn't and that's part of the reason why they got fired. Let me said that it took him a couple of years remember you look at that they've they've wrapped up to eleven wins they had at another kind of little bit of a sore and there were they didn't go to a bowl game and it took him a couple years to kind of easy said dude to root that out but it. I do think that when you. You get all the shiny bells and whistles there isn't there is an element of that and you know with the with the organ in the run that they were on that us USC like. Mean you play for two national titles and you go to multiple BCS teams year after year after year. I don't care who you are that is in very tough thing to keep it out even Nick Saban is still without an Alabama where he talks about two after winning a national title. How difficult it is to keep kids hungry and fighting for more and you know that's a place like Alabama with the best coach in the country. And so I don't maybe it's just to see how Willie Taggart comes in but he does is. He doesn't sound like a guy that really. Is going to sit by and let that happen he sounds like he does have a little bit of an edge to them. And isn't just going to be happy with the status quo and people being fat and happy. Really hear more from Willie Taggart in his press conference today later but up next we have our NFL picks against the spread it. And that is called her and if a challenge imam who we return on the sand.
