Or on two or actor and Sprague at Peter Johnson at Brandon spray such as gonna be swagger in myself today. We've got Robert Mays NFL writer for the ringer he's an op finalist at 115. Will discuss bill simmons' new website and toxin NFL including. Who he thinks is LeBron James. Of the NFL team really interesting piece that Robert Mays and if a writer wrote and at 1230. We've got data we've got Dave we got a book a few months back it was entitled blood Brothers the fatal friendship between Mohamed Ali and Malcolm Max. I literally started reading it. The last Thursday. I started the first chapter I just got done with it so I just started crack in that book because we had found a mom and I'll Lee had gone into the hospital on Friday. And I thought to my cement is kind of perfect timing. But he ended up passing away which is really unfortunate we're gonna sock about Mohammed Ali today as well so. Your best not to Mohammed Ali you're going to be welcome at the pantex site by five through five. On the author of that book the blood Brothers the fatal friendship between Mohamed Ali and Malcolm Max Johnny Smith. He's he co author of that book also wrote a book about John Wood in and he is a history professor at Georgia Tech he's gonna jump on line at 1230. Discuss the life of Mohammed Ali game one of the NBA finals. It was relieved it was close a little bit. Have to believe the third quarter ending Golden State in a blown them out and humor we did our show the next day we said hey is it just gave wine. Or aim will game to change or is this house series is going to be. I think we all kind of thought deemed too close maybe you swank kicked a warriors in five so I think he dug on state was gonna win I'd like Cleveland could've won. Boy were we wrong we got nothing buddy. Regardless I saw a you know as we signed off the show will matter predictions Friday afternoon and I I buckled the state would win but I said it'll be single digits Cleveland's defense will be better but offensively they'll still be challenged in. Offensively they were challenged throughout the game and eventually it just got in their heads in their hearts and they quit playing defense and that was it. You know. I picked I picked the cavs in seven and retrospect right that's not gonna happen they're not winning this series you're not gonna tell me they're gonna win for the next five and got into an Oakland. Go into an Oakland now well yet Jimmie tell damages the foreign final guy is Cleveland earlier not doing that against this team now. So I think this series is over I really do I think you're gonna pulpit brooms for this one. There was nothing in game two yesterday. Then I think leaves you. Encouraged whatsoever that is going to be a series now maybe they come out firing and hitting shots in game three. I still think stepped in place significantly better I think clay can play better and they're winning by 25 plus. I just don't think this is never going to be a series Kevin love's injuries going to be huge because Willie clay we not play. I don't think he's gonna be up there for game three the other concussion on how you come back no he's in the league protocol because when he wins it's. You know they they evaluated them initially. And doctors to Germany didn't show any initial signs a concussion but they showed. If he saw and in the post game or during the game they showed the video he was kind of in the middle of the paint on a defensive sequence in appeared to. All of a sudden kind of just not know worry was. Didn't know couldn't follow the play Munich it appeared just from the naked eye and that's when they pull them out went to the locker room at that point. He goes into the concussion protocol so I I don't know death was there seven different. I'm milestones you have to demonstrate to the doctors yeah they let you you know get back so. By the way I love the MBA they they care so much about the players' safety in they've done usually good job Kevin Love was in the paint pro fight. Fifteen seconds nobody stopped play they'll dream on drive loves his life in their whole ms. had no big deal and get an and one. On but let. I I do think I was really close citizen just I like watching LeBron win and a lot of people disagree that green that's fine he's as one of those players. I love what gold states and I I thought we would get a great series. But you look at it now and Golden State just a freak him buzz saw I mean this isn't. I was watch a lot NB ATV and ESPN yesterday to stick kind of get a feel what maybe some analysts were saying here's some of the post game stuff. And it was funny because I turned ESP writers I turn I have Stephen A Smith screaming at me. About how the Cleveland Cavaliers discriminate Slater oh he absolutely will. About how the cavs. Acquitted in they showed no hard and how you can see in their eyes from his vantage point you can see in their eyes. We're not gonna win this game and nobody wanted to play. I actually just completely disagree that not get it not because the Stephen A Smith I did I don't think it's about quitting. I really think it's just a vast difference of where these two teams are LeBron has never lost seven straight games against an opponent. He has now against the Golden State Warriors they own Cleveland they really do well. I think this goes out and they stop I think they're to a certain extent dumbfounded. As to. They had had such an easy time of it through the Eastern Conference. And now they're getting the challenge is coming not in dealing with staff and Klay Thompson and it's dealing with the entire team. And day they don't know if they're not making threes and getting comparable looks and knocked on one end date date don't know where to go. Other then you know I think there'll looking to LeBron does say give us out of this. And so it'll be interesting deceit. Game three LeBron might go for fifty that that's the one thing I might he might just say okay. I'm not take the ball. Two if two guys are on me on student's score and if three guys are on me than some of these wide open for a layup personal habit is set and you know that's now it's not gonna win new four day that's what I. I don't knows that when GA game at this point the way this team is set up I don't know when I know we saw last year with two which is why antigen draster opinion bud or drastic opinion of this series going in. LeBron is not LeBron of even two years ago I mean that's just that's is what it is you're gonna have those miles where onion. I don't know he's capable of giving you fifty. And even if he dies. What does that mean for Carrie diary I told I don't think they win this championship the most Harry goes another level and I don't know fee has another level Kevin Love. Same thing even before that injury he doesn't do winning winning specially was making an impact. And I was amazed last night Tyrone Lue. You know look it's his first years ahead coach you know this is government away little overmatched stretch now is why. We now watch the game in the third court he decided to just play every small player hit the biggest guy on the court for Cleveland was LeBron. Yeah yeah and then Golden State went on like a twenty to two run it is. You've got to counteract what the EU can't match what Golden State does very. Very few teams came Portland. Time to tell possessions gambit overall can't yet Oklahoma City probably the closest team I think they are on the verge and they couldn't they couldn't close him out appreciate how good Oklahoma City as appreciate how good the Western Conference no doubt about that. But Cleveland choosing to go small mean is Tennessee is Timothy mas goth dead. Channing Frye mas dot Tristan Thompson why not try and pour these big guys I just I scratch my head Zain. Yes LeBron is probably the best player in the NBA overall. But he's not an a level where I I only single handedly doing this for you and I I'll be so I'll be honest I'm a little surprised. Like some of the role players and some of the stars for for Cleveland outside a LeBron. And the brining played Iowa yesterday. Just shown up is not playing well mean completely shut down late hour or day you gotta make some changes. Well I think the other at Cleveland has a lot of one dimensional players of what makes a Golden State so unique is how many of there are players that play regularly can do multiple things on the floor at both ends. Nobody's you know nobody's perfect and and so you know. Other GM Bob Myers needs to be given some accolades for working with Kerr and how they put this team together to it to give it to him now. Colin was saying earlier today. Salary cap situation a contract situations are going to be such an a couple of years when it's time for stuff to get paid that. They may not be able to keep this sort of depth to gather. Eventually I gonna hit Mumbai but yet they still got their core like they got at least another season may be too. With this group and outside of Oklahoma City it's hard to see some by the giving them a real challenge should seven game series. Somebody taxing in the pantex I've 55305. I think this is a relation to tying up the remaining five gained somebody saying I can't Cleveland just went all the home games in one in Oakland twins series. Yeah we were just saying like you look at the the schedule now. They have to win four of the last five which seems almost impossible based on what we just saw. And sweat which is pointing out they have two home games remaining in Oakland so Cleveland's gonna do it odd they have to still go back to Oakland and then you know assuming that they can. War games a roadmap to go back for game seven but. Yet as well as their points as knife on a watch and which is an existing thing is it's a championship and some people who even heat LeBron lottery you know this is fun like. The down 25 LeBron team play in the fourth quarterly do not really getting anything out of this and by the way my friend pointed this out he text me he goes think about this. Old state when 73 games in the regular season except the record right. There are on the verge of sweeping potentially Cleveland Cavaliers. In four games. That could have been their last home game yesterday and the crowd left with like six minutes laughter which is psyche and whatever were really good we know it it's no big deal. Instead it just taken it all ends an eight next time you guys come back we can be celebrate another championship no big deal. Bay Area fans meant have been spoiled lately they really have. Robert Mays the ringer NFL writer he's gonna join the show won fifteen. And Johnny Smith he's a co author of Mohammed Ali booked at twelve. Thirty he's gonna hop on were attacked about the goats the most iconic sports figure. An all of sport the coming up next. How LeBron and stepped courier changing the perception of legacy. In the NBA in these finals nectar Sprague on 1080 van. Coming up in about eleven minutes really excited we're gonna am Johnny Smith he is a history professor at Georgia Tech. And he also co wrote. A book about Mohammed Ali blood Brothers the fatal friendship between Mohamed Ali and Malcolm Max we got a few months ago I just started it last week. So we're gonna bring on Johnny Smith. Who co wrote it and we'll discuss the passing of one of the most iconic if not the most iconic sports figures of all time. You know often times adding this is the beauty of sports we get jail time on the fan text on a 55305. Swagger myself get into it. Dirt and wagon and everybody loves sports and has an appreciation for sports. Tend to find themselves at one point or another whenever supporter teen your passionate about. You you find yourself getting into like first take like debates rightly we make fun to skip Bayless and Stephen A we've all been in a situation like right yeah there's a reason why they're well paid in that show continues to. There exactly. And there's nothing more for me than any other sport in the NBA willing with me and my friends. The one that we will argue or banter about his everybody has their opinions and being K the player I like the most I think he's the greatest. It's the MBA. But I think right now in the NBA finals. Losing him of his last night unfortunately watching the game as some people taxing and I turned off the third quarter it's boring I can't even watch it's terrible. And I hear that. I'm watching it and I was just thinking about different things and the one thing I have thought about. Is I often times don't like narratives and perceptions of legacies and towards adding sometimes for certain players. It cannot be actions they overrated by can be a little overblown of light. Just how great one guy is vs maybe how great another one is adding two players in the finals now that could change the perception. Of their legacies in the way we look at it are both LeBron. And staff Currie. Now with LeBron LeBron is never going to be able to escape the criticism of not coming up big and he potentially gonna drop to two and five in his career in the NBA finals. A lot you know Clyde she's never going to be able escapes certain people's opinions of him. But I do find it interesting there was a really good read on him on Saturday. From Brian when horse and it was it was from Jerry West. And Jerry West said this who by the way was one in eight in the NBA finals and he's the logo for the lead and was known as mr. clutch Jerry West said this and that story. Quote that's the most ridiculous staying dropping to two and five if I were him I'd probably want to strangle the detractors. He's carried teams on his shoulders he's been to the final six straight times how many times. Has he been the favorite 90 grossly unfair to him that is incorrect by the way he was the favorite in 2011 a couple of times with Miami and I believe they were favored the year they beat the spurs are the Ray Allen shot yeah. But after that no. And he also went on I don't wanna sound like Donald Trump but it's hard for me to believe someone doesn't recognize his greatness. This guy does everything in he's competitive as hell frankly I wish people would leave him alone. End quote. I do think there's a part of Jerry West talking like this and saying these things about LeBron that kind of Harken back to may be the waste his legacy is of being one any need NBA finals. And I think when you look back last year a lot of people look back sales LeBron vs Golden State took him to six. This year LeBron hasn't played that well. And I think people will look back at some point on LeBron really do you feel this way. We will look back on LeBron James will be top five in points. If not the leader rebounds. And assists all time and probably the every statistical category in playoffs stats. I think we'll look back and we'll be leaked toning rings it'll be more about appreciating what he was able to do his career in these. Really sub 500 yeah it in terms of of a legacy not terms of you know where he's starting to stack up I it did start to sound a lot like Wilt Chamberlain art when will didn't win. Think you won one title may be too nice he went to. And you know you it was Karine who want all the titles. In a couple of stops or or Bill Russell those you know those types of guys even though will. Was so physically dominant show amazingly skilled. That he forced the league did change rules. You know there widen the key and and other sorts of things to try and you know current tail just tough physically dominant he was at that time in the lead so. Is see the great out on the we always have these greatest of all time. Debates are great yet their air is nobody ever saying nobody has a perfect answer for that no and there's not and it's you know. Beauties in the the ball holder as well. But as he. Seemed to dip more grief then then praise at this point yeah he does now some of that he's brought on himself with how he's handled his career no doubt and he can't ever go back and change that no matter if he. One or 56 more titles. Well even take this team for example right like I looked at blaster I was amazed they got there because the year before they were terrible. You look at what he has you have to point the finger at him like he left Miami for this this is what he wanted these are who we wanted to play with these guys. And this is where the Iraq so I always agree with that notion like this guy texting in. They always say it's always someone else's fault knuckle bronze. I bet if they if they can go back they wouldn't have listened a moron and trade Wiggins for love maybe that is true and I think LeBron does dabble too much and stuff off the court. I'm just talking about overall career perception we get so caught up and counting the rings. That you you forget to appreciate just how great a player is or was in their career. Step Kerr is a good example of this you know George got six rings the five NDP's the deep into player of the year. And the six finals MVPs. Would they sweet and stuff curry continues to play like he's played. He's not going to be the finals MVPs let's two straight championships now we're stepped Currie has in the league MVP but at the finals MVP. We're gonna knock him down a notch for that does that not make what he did as great as any other player in a season. All he's the unanimous lead in VP sometimes we get way too caught up. In the selfish a war aspect of Jordan being the lead the NBA finals MVP six times you can argue it. But if you would have made Scotty and NBA finals MVP once or twice. Now when at a problem and and I either Scott given the impact was huge. And so it's like and I were talking about this you look at stepped curry looking Golden State's death has scored what 29 points in two games combined. Watch Cleveland defense of lead were ever Klay Thompson goes and steps curry goes guess who follows. 32 to three Cleveland defenders that's an impact without actually impacting there's a reason Golden State's getting all of these open layups. All of these dunks not only get stepped Currie at the end of his career if he finishes with two and say. You know staff had to that's great he had a great season the regular season but he wasn't finals MVP. I think sometimes we too caught up. An ancillary things like that we got a collar literally take a lot of calls but will go to the caller right now we've got DNA in PDA acts Iran spamming go ahead. Hey I just wanted to chime in on the LeBron legacy and Arctic wouldn't think that will be talking about. With LeBron is that. It is a team sport and he's relief for sake in the one thing that at the holy Grail for team sports and continuity. He has spent his time chasing the title going from here. Going there and you release it evident in the final where you have continuity on uncle stateside they know what they're doing. To get it has been together or two years they don't know what they're doing it took two years to get a ring in Miami. It's going to be he's going to be a great basketball and forgot one big day. Now there are thanks for the called generally appreciated yet and continuity is huge and and people forget like. We get soak it up in stars in the league and and rightfully so because we've seen certain guys carried their teams in. Kind of be the leader of championships. But I mean you watch Golden State. And you know as this text points out. Him not being the finals MVP speaks more now greatest team is and how great he is individually. I disagree with it and I hope a lot of people out there start having exact kind of reality stop looking and counting only got this mini MVPs with this many rings. It's not always about ranged Jerry West is the logo he was 18 his production by the way went high gear in the finals and it did the regular season. Is that major US not any great night not a great all time absolutely not. Just in the Jordan air almost ruined a lot of things for a lot of basketball fans because we had so many great players in our league. That you just get to con up to him six for six yet but when he actually finally got to the championship moment this team was ready. You LeBron carries it garbage team in 07 of the finals the way ahead of expectation. It's wept and now LeBron starts out oh for one like we just get too caught up I think. And counting greens and in BP's and just appreciate greatness staff cores taken two or three defenders with them. And it's leaving his teammates wide open on them to do much in these NBA finals. Johnny Smith who co wrote the book blood Brothers the fatal friendship between Mohamed Ali and Malcolm Max. He's gonna join shown next as our Mohamed Ali and fortunately passed away. Over the weekend that's next 1233 on 1080 the fan unfortunate news over the weekend. As the sports world lost. The most iconic person in sports history in my opinion Mohammed Ali passing away the ages seven before we got a book. And our station a couple months back and actually just started reading it's it's kind of a crazy coincidence. It's titled blood Brothers the fatal friendship between Mohamed Ali and Malcolm Max and big guy who co wrote that book. Is joining us now only guild mortgage mobile hotline Johnny Smith he's also a professor of history professor. At Georgia Tech Johnny thinks are taken them time and I'm sure your pretty busy a lot of people requesting to talk with you after I ages wrote that book. I'm curious how it all kind of gotten motion knees did you know what I am gonna write about Mohammed Ali and Malcolm X. Yes well thanks for having me it it's been remarkable. Or quite an honor to have. So many folks like yourself reaching out to act like Al Ahmed Ali. And my co locker Robert nightly I direct a lot corporate interest didn't want to speak to question an edit content Cassius Clay. Become a common Lee the only question that urgent it didn't know that he changed his name but evolution like going from. A young man grow up in segregated Louisville, Kentucky Baptist Greek and the church. If someone who befriend Malcolm X who was seen at its fiery critic of American race at some the most controversial. Prominent. Most all in America. And who want export their relationship. And guys into how Malcolm X shaped pageant claimed the man who become a common Ali and inflicted political thinking and religious. You know Johnny I had just started reading this book last week's Iceland got a little ways to go but I really enjoyed it thus far do I do I'm curious 'cause for athlete that was. As open as he was in just gave you his opinion on everything and also meet funny you while he did it. What was what was something that surprised you that you found out that maybe not a lot of people ever heard over new. What's interesting to think about the book is that. In the year of 196119. Q can critique three action clay is right heavyweight ranks. And at that time generally speaking you reported any discussion. Of race or politics. And that expectation in America that apple did not eat out that they did not where opinion. Apple remember about Ali that earlier this career. With loud brash comical. Ali. I think it's important understand about that quality that lit her so that it created. That all of there. Well and pride at having a conversation Malcolm Mac and being. Eaton meeting relation at the swamp and Cassius Clay that there was no meant he understood. Can't not know about his relationship with the nation at flop and political it's fascinating what people might also find it strange. Really in digging up to section the out flight recorder one thing that he was a good Christian reading your Bible. But exact start and develop into the kind relation of this. Which I would Johnny Smith he co wrote the book blood Brothers brought from blood Brothers of I could get that out. The fatal friendship between Mohamed Ali and Malcolm X could find it Amazon.com and any bookstore. Pretty good read thus far for me I'm just a couple chapters in. When did that change for him then and I don't wanna spoke too much from the book I want people to go out there by the book but I'm tears when did that change where he went from. Talking with white reporters about being a good Christian man to just openly singing don't forget this. This is how I feel and this is where my beliefs lie I'm coming out number to speak about it. Great question shall Arctic sea in 1963. It's that he subtly make statements. Without saying I'm a number of the nation of Islam but he makes statements that. I don't mean immigration. I'm not interested in marching for demonstrating. I don't believe they're not buying. In this kind of startled people Eric wears a car and truck while coming from the conversation with the minister in each event. But then what happens in the early 1964. Britons aren't you excited contractors aren't so enlist in the Miami. Heavyweight title they're growing suspicion. He's been seen coming out of a meeting with the nation that our reporter there on his trail. He becomes more vocal become more honest about his true feelings about. Race and religion and politics in a relationship. And really let it time we get to you weeks. And into January. Malcolm X showed up at camp in Miami each. Course pretty much know by that point that tactic great. Is a member of the nation that arm. But he keeps denying. But they also didn't end well right denied everything coming go back associate the in the Malcolm that's his life. So what happened to genetic complicated story up but it in nutshell what happened Malcolm Mac. You can be punished. Elijah Mohammed. And all the reader can not be killed buck. Like a comedy Malcolm X patiently. Are quite exciting over Cassius Clay they recognize that actor incredibly championship. Commodity that he offered LU speaker both a larger chronic Malcolm Mac. To build their own black movement and they know that Cassius Clay buyers. Young urban black man in America and that he would. And cool at all it would happen is practically export make it or go Malcolm X. Org port on the leader in the nation of Islam like Mohammed. And each you to Elijah Mohammed in their important political can't sequestered about Cassius Clay and for Malcolm. We're talking with a Johnny Smith co wrote the book blood Brothers the fatal friendship between Mohamed Ali and Malcolm X also a history professor. At Georgia Tech. It's an interesting thing for him to choose one over the other and I'll allow readers to get their book and find out maybe why he chose to do that. How do you think the nation and is on hiding that changed his life as just a professional athlete. You know it's interesting have been thinking about that question because I. More air out the deeper he became involved with the nation at this October 1994. He began to seem themselves at apple for a lot. Tell reporters. I am profit I embassy here on boxing network congestion and ubiquitous cable sports that we're dying and struggling. You really metrics we. That I'll lock it human and divine power. And they exclude a firm firsthand when he defeat any extent Malcolm record cold and you know I'll lock up. App brought it startle you bail out a way to win everywhere championship and we do. You're going to become old boy. From mark along than for black people in America and all across the world. Suffer a commonality. Going to release himself. And it's a figure who can change the world statement saying the world and we compete. I come from. His relationship with ally is state. And being apart in the age of the law. What's your earliest memory or what's your favorite memory of Mohammed Ali. True but there are you know I told promoted recently that. I first became interested in Mohammed Ali and out under courage in state history major and I took any. Our research seminar and certainly some sports history. I realized that sports for the period subject for or where are are. Thank you get it right I'm a whistle expect it to buy him a wiping it did in Africa reach a paper that marked the documentary. When we were talking. Emerged in stern watching Ali instructors aren't you're preparing for the fight against or Norman seen all of these children. All across the world are halfway across from America ball in villages. And it shall be truly Wallach of global Euro introduced hero to people all across the world. And that made an impression on meet and live with it and has crime until note don't documentary I think are important. Relics of a packed. I understand the world. You go I do get to teach us sports history or you just like US history. I do boat I teach modern American history that each American sports history and I know that require a boxing. I've enjoyed the ringer that's why I have not so peruse that just yet you should there's some really good piece design and we'll do that so we will bring on Robert Mays and if a writer at at 115 asked for the break. Out for your favorite Mohammed I'll leave memories or just your favorite anything quote whatever it is Mohammed Ali related. ID can text the at a fan takes on a 55305. What we we found out he was going and hospitals like -- route I went on TMZ that daily show and I went to durning hole. Polly's in the hospital for respiratory issues we should really start thinking about stuff to do once he passes away. As you just never know with somebody with parkinson's for that long and you know kind of that at stage. And nanny and fortunately passed away and we discussed it before on this show just athletes that you wish you could have seen alive. And there's a whole list of phone Mohammed Ali for both third and myself was always one of those guys like. It is unfortunately I'm not the age where I got to watch Ali in his prime you know the the Ollie enlist and Z Ali Frazier and Ali Foreman is like adding it to watch those I didn't I'd go to. Did I remember. Very young 78 years olds seem some of his later fight in the late seventies yeah. And it was still a big deal I remember you know. Parents that it would be a big gathering at the ball was live on ABC I'm like a Friday or Saturday night no paper view none of that coast cells there. And in all the spectacle in it and now remember we had a houseful of people. You know and you have the pool going around and you put bucked in in broader number one round Woodard and and that sort of thing. And so just just the spectacle debt eight. You know out Lake Oswego this middle class white PM Lee would fall. Circle around and multi generations grandparents who come over and come to watch this guy. Not only fight the put. On a show yeah I hear you on that one I think that's what makes him Timmy he's the most iconic sports figure all time outings he gets close there's there's two of the two most important. You know athletes. In the last 10250. Years or Jackie Robinson and Mohammed Ali for and and rightfully so of the weird part about this whole thing it was actually confirmed. And announce an a B solace the sports world found out he truly died because the Marlins. Jumbotron did you see this story. So that the Marlins in the middle the Marlins game was it Friday or Saturday when that was Friday evening so Friday evening in the middle of the Marlins game the Jumbo Tron said. Mohammad Ali and it said from blank the blank dead at 74. And the entire stadium was like going on Twitter and like nobody had confirmed it the first person that reported it was the mine Jimmy Marlins Jumbotron. Others passing this is Vin Scully who complained in school audio all year it's his last season well of course he announces the passing a Mohammed Ali. We have just received distressing news although there were a lot of people think during that we will coming close to the end the story out of Arizona. We understand right now that Mohammed Ali the former Cassius Clay has passed away. That of course will be a huge story throughout the sports world. Affecting not only boxing fans. Fans of every sport and those who don't care about sports. He has so much. Other reaction from his fans. And the impression that they need so many people. Mohammed Ali. What was the mood like the butterflies the length of the stuff like that. Float like a butterfly. Flew like the butterflies. And the. And you know I can admit this is dates myself compared to some other listeners out there but like one of my big memories. Of Mohamed Ali was the 96. Olympic Torch lighting up. And and you know again I was I was too young to watch any of his great great fights and I've seen most of them on YouTube or ESPN classic so. Thank god those things exist that you can still go watch somebody's graze him fight. Well I crime fortunately and I'll be curious you know it might be time to actually go find out what channel ESPN classic is on because I'm. They might start running his old fights go to Arizona you know where there is a lot over before you know every single baseball game in basketball game were word televised. So there's lot of like old time stuff but there's like you know there's not footage for yet did scramble around and try and find it. Boxing was one of those things that there was conflict gold. You know every single big fight and show that was the sport it was not waste the sport along with baseball and there was no more important. Athlete in his time in the heavyweight champion of the world from. What the forties through mid Mike Tyson. And so yes so I'm hoping ESPN classic is is just show the fights. And it's eaten with whoever you know of the original calls and in those sorts of things of people can go back in see just what kind of athlete he was. And then the the pre imposed press conferences and he and that he in the trash talked. He really did and it's not just sports with him to enact now makes him so iconic lake. The Vietnam War he's drafted for the via mores as you know what I I got no problem with with with those people over them not do when this. Any loses a few years of his prime years of boxing and it's an agreement to pierce exactly 25 or thinking come back at least 29 or thirty new. So you always lose though is yours as well related dots coming into the memories of Mohammed Ali you passed away over the weekend. Are on the fan techs I've 55 your file let me read it a few real quick. I'm it's he really don't have a favorite but I did love when he Purcell would do an interview never been a boxing fan but that was can't miss television. I remember when Alec cannot remember what fight it was the Mohammed Ali was doing a press conference when he gave what is my favorite Ali quote. If you even dream of beating me you better wake up and apologize I always have appreciated that one. Another one of my favorite memory volley was seen. Was seen Joseph Frazier knock him on his body in 1971 I'm sorry but I just can't mine the Ali love fest yes. He was impact on skilled and he did things for a lot of disenfranchised people but he was also arrogant condescending hypocritical. In a racist so there's a different perspective there another one best moment without Lee was shaking his hand in Las Vegas. When I worked a charity event with his daughter very very proud moment for myself and another listener reporting a story that I didn't know about when he talked. On a man from jumping out of the building was in 1981 this is actually on YouTube. 1981 in LA there's a man in downtown LA he was going to commit suicide. And in the video you see Ali in a few of his confidant they run to the building. And he goes up to where the man is any ends up talking the man down from committing suicide. And you know I read so many different pieces from people people that may be at the seat I sit down and have a meal with them. Pick his brain just do an interview one of my favorite ones was Keith Olbermann and I thought Rhoda really really good piece. And coincidentally it is on the ringer dot com. And it's just about his experiences Mohammed Ali. And hitting it puts it puts it all into perspective for us this guy lived in a generation in the cell phones no Internet. And he would literally stop his car at times no matter what country or city was that. Get out anyway just wanna walk around and the the just loads and loads of people that would surround the car and him. It was he would run off people who were paid. To escort Mohammed Ali from one place to like there was a woman who was working to get him from one destination to another. And so many people needed it so huffed and got a no way to win is she had to quit like she was like no I'm not doing this any Mormon to do something else. So it just it's really tragic he's one of the most iconic if not the most iconic in all sports. And you know we have always opinions on rich Germans cam Newton's. It name another athlete that really gives an opinion out there. And I just think Mohamed Ali he really was that every single day of his career. Jim Brown it was really good friends of them says most people didn't stop eating them until it was way too late because of what he stood for in what he stood against. At a very political time a lot going on not only with civil rights movement. But obviously with the Vietnam War as well so. It's it's unfortunate it really is even if you don't follow boxing you knew. Mohamed Ali was so Mohammed Ali. Passing away at the age of seventy. For expectations. For a usually crappy NFL team Mario and of being asked to improve in this area. And we have a Plaxico Burress 2.0 on our hands get all the answers in our NFL what brown which is next as we kick off our two on Portland sports leader 1080 the fan.
